Kursübersicht "Digitalization in Logistics (AL 13.30)"

Instructor:

Hr. Simon Braun

Course Objective

The magnitude and speed of contemporary challenges across nearly all industries have yet not seen any slowdowns. Saturated markets and increasing price sensitivity continue to increase cost pressures. Increasing complexity of products and services, as well as a nonlinearity in cooperation, lead to a growing complexity in supply chains. And, if this is not bad enough, the customer is more and more asking for individualization in terms of product design and communication while claiming consistency in quality. However, the term of "digitalization" has been referred to as one appropriate means to address these challenges by academics and industry experts, leading organizations to put digitalization as a key issue on their strategic agenda.

Digitalization promises to identify and exploit additional efficiency potentials in business processes, enhance controllability of supply chains through a higher transparency as well as a higher flexibility in production lines allowing production managers to think about batch-size-one. However, organizations still struggle to step into the digital transformation process of their organization. One of the top mentioned reason is the lack of knowledge in technologies and tools.

The aim of the course is to fill this gap by focussing on innovative technologies and applications especially in the area of logistics and supply chain management. Within the course, the students will be enabled to evaluate the different technologies and applications in their adequacy to serve as a lever to accelerate digital transformation process.
