Brief description of the course
The aim of this course is to improve the understanding of the key issues that companies face when managing the performance of employees, developing the skills of conducting effective training program, illustrating the ways on how to gain competitive advantage through talent management activities.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course we should be able to:
- discuss the strategic importance of training and development,
- describe career issues that organizations and employees must address,
- show how training and development needs are determined,
- identify the conditions for effective training and development,
- show how to create conditions to maximize learning during a development program,
- gain the knowledge how to manage the performance of employees,
- develop interpersonal skills as an appraiser and appraisee,
- know how to foster entrepreneurial spirit among employees.

- Strategic importance of training and development
- Talent management within an integrated HRM system
- How to conduct effective training process: the phase of needs assessment and designing the elements of the process
- Designing the Training Program
- Implementing and evaluating the training program
- Conducting Performance Management and retention strategies
- Student presentations
Methods
Conceptual frameworks, case discussions, and skill-oriented activities.
Prerequisites
Formal: Full-time students in the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences.
Academic: Students must be able to participate in class discussions in English.

Assessment
The evaluation of students is subject to the exam regulations of HS Koblenz, University of Applied Sciences. The following assessment methods will be used:
