Objectives

The course is designed to those students, who either have a business idea, or think, that during their career, they might start their own business. This course is highly interactive, and provides the students with the basic principles of entrepreneurship. The key objective is to equip the students with the essential knowledge, basic considerations and experiences, which will help them to succeed in their business development efforts.

Contents

An essential element of this introductory course is to assess a business opportunity and a business development process. Students will have the opportunity to analyze business cases, understand and assess business ideas, entrepreneurial teams, and business situations. They will understand the importance of International Entrepreneurship and the impact of a culture. Students will learn how to create business, marketing, organizational and financial plans.

Teaching Methods

The course, next to regular classroom presentations and discussions, includes situation games, case studies, team assignments, interview session and presentations.

Prerequisites

Formal: Full-time student of Business Administration (BA Program) in the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences (WISO) OR exchange student with approved learning agreement.

Academic: This course does not build up on any other courses offered on campus. It is therefore suitable for first-semester students. As the language of instruction and assessment will be English, students need to be fluent in English - both in terms of oral and written communication.

Assessment

Grades will be based on a mid-term exam worth 30 points, classroom activities 30 points and a final in-class test (or written essay and/or presentation) worth 40 points, for a total of 100 points. Tests will be based on the material covered in class. The instructor reserves the right to make changes to this syllabus, as appropriate.

Bewertung

Voraussetzung für die Vergabe von ECTS-Punkten ist das Bestehen der Prüfungsleistung für das Gesamtmodul. Die Prüfungsleistung für diese Kurseinheit geht zu einem Viertel (für AL13.1) bzw. zur Hälfte (für AL13.2) in die Prüfungsleistung für das Gesamtmodul ein.
