Lernergebnisse/Kompetenzen

The course mainly focuses on the needs of students who need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®). It aims to introduce students to the basic structure of the test and show them ways of preparing for this situation. Special emphasis will be placed on the grammatical skills required for the successful completion of the "Structure and Written Expression" section of the test.

Inhalte

The contents are adjusted to the students’ individual needs. Integrated practice for the Listening and the Reading sections of the test is supplemented with skill-building exercises on specific problems tested in the TOEFL ® – such as inversion, noun clauses, adjective clauses, prepositional phrases, tenses, conditional clauses, causatives, parallel structures, transitive and intransitive verbs, impersonal expressions of importance etc. This course is not suitable for students at beginner’s level.

Lehrformen

After an initial diagnostic test, which will indicate the specific needs of the individual members of the group, a learning program will be arranged. Students will be encouraged to use our library resources and our language lab resources in order to deal with their individual problems. In-class activities will focus on test-taking and preparation strategies, selected fields of syntax, and comprehension skills. A number of useful skill-building exercises will be provided. Students are expected to do a good deal of individual work beyond the in-class activities.

Formale: Eingeschriebene(r) Studierende(r) am Fachbereich WiSo des RheinAhrCampus für den Bachelor-Studiengang.

Inhaltliche:

• Modul „Überfachliche Qualifikationen“ (B 14) im 1. Semester.
• Die in englischer Sprache beschriebenen und gelehrten Veranstaltungen setzen fortgeschrittene kommunikative Kompetenzen in der englischen Sprache voraus.

Prüfungsformen

• Alle Kurseinheiten: regelmäßige und aktive Mitarbeit.
• B263 TOEFL Preparation Course: Mehrere Tests (Hörverständnis - Grammatik - Leseverständnis) in Anlehnung an TOEFL®-Anforderungen - nur Semesterende.

Bewertung

Voraussetzung für die Vergabe von ECTS-Punkten ist das Bestehen der Prüfungsleistung für das Modul. Diese wird durch Kumulation der Kurseinheitenprüfungen generiert. Die Teilleistungen für die einzelnen Kurseinheiten gehen zu je einem Viertel in die Modulnote ein. Kurseinheitenbezogene Bestehensgrenzen bestehen nicht.

Das Modul geht mit 7 ECTS in die Gesamtzahl von 180 ECTS-Punkten ein.
